Sita, an airline communications company, and ULD Care, a trade association, plan to use the blockage to save $400 million per year in the air cargo industry.
The Blockchain platform will track cargo and record changes in cargo container storage data as it moves between destinations. This will reduce costs, increase efficiency, reduce losses and prevent damage to cargo.
In addition, the platform will provide enhanced authentication functions and reduce the risk of data counterfeiting and money laundering.
"A container can travel from Shanghai to the US within 30 days. At the same time, travel time takes a maximum of 15 days and the rest is spent on processing documentation. Blockchain can revolutionize this process," said Bob Rogers, vice president of ULD Care.
According to the president on decisions for air transportation in Sita Matthys Serfontein, the Blockchain can deliver the industry from many pain points.
"We are very closely examining the potential of the technology and are happy to be able to change the entire industry with the help of the Blockchain," he said.
Serfontein also stressed that the potential of the Blockchain goes far beyond the air cargo industry and can help solve the problems of passenger air transportation.
Recall that major brands, including Nike and Macy's, recently tested the blockchain's RFID Lab system to track supply chains, while Ecuadorian dairy producer El Ordeño tracks its deliveries using the IBM Food Trust system.
