The Bitstamp exchange has added SegWit address support

The Bitstamp crypt exchange, a member of the Bitwise Real 10 index, has announced the addition of full support for Bitcoin SegWit addresses.

Now users of the platform will be able to generate new Bitcoin addresses for deposits in the format bech32, as well as withdraw funds to similar wallets. This will reduce the number of errors in writing the address, as they always begin with "bc1" and are case insensitive.

"We encourage our users to switch to bech32 format, as it increases the efficiency of transactions in the Bitcoin network. In addition, bech32 automatically checks the format of the address, so that the user will not be able to send their bitcoins to the wrong wallet," says the press release.

Recall that SegWit is an add-on over the protocols of various blockheads, allowing more efficient consolidation of transactions in the block, thereby increasing their number and reducing commissions. Using SegWit can increase the number of records in a block to 25%.

Last fall, it was reported that the number of SegWit transactions on Bitcoin's network increased from 40% to 55%. This is facilitated by support for the technology from various cryptographic platforms, including BitMEX and Bitfinex.
