The Italian Red Cross, Young Platform and the Colli Albani Committee have begun accepting donations in Bitcoin to fight the Coronavirus pandemic that governments around the world are trying to localize. Payments will be accepted through the Helperbit platform, which helps organize fundraising for charitable purposes.
According to sources familiar with the initiative, each donation received will be used to create advanced level 2 medical facilities. Reportedly, these clinics will provide pre-diagnosis of COVID-19 cases in Italy.
Italy is one of the countries most severely affected by coronavirus. The whole country is under quarantine, which has completely stopped the local economy. The amount raised will be used to purchase hospital beds and hire medical personnel to meet the needs of the exponentially growing number of patients.
President of Colli Albani Committee Bruno Pietrosanti commented on the situation:
"We believe that an innovative fundraising tool like Bitcoin will help us get the economic resources we need, which are difficult to access in this difficult period.
The coronavirus has not only become a threat to public health, but has also seriously damaged the global economy, including the cryptographic industry. Last Thursday, the BTC price fell to $5,600 amid falling traditional markets, and never recovered. Now the Bitcoin rate is fluctuating around $5,000.
On Friday, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) suspended trading in Chicago, including derivatives on Bitcoin, due to the spread of coronavirus. In addition, the NYDFS required regulated cryptographic companies to provide detailed coronavirus preparedness plans due to its health and business risks.
