French green energy company ekWateur and Australian Power Ledger will launch a block-platform for distributing electricity from renewable sources.
Almost a quarter of a million French people will be able to estimate this new opportunity. Consumers will be able to analyse electricity costs and see how much energy has been generated from renewable sources. Blockchains will be used to confirm the energy source. More than 220,000 ekWater meters will be connected to a Power Ledger block-chain tool called Vision.
"Whether customers want to use electricity from solar panels installed on the roof of a neighbouring house or from wind turbines in Bordeaux, our platform will provide them with the choice and control of the energy source they use," said Power Ledger Executive Chairman Jemma Green.
The companies' joint statement stresses that providing new tools to customers will help them meet Paris' greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. The block-platform should be fully operational by the end of this year.
It was recently reported that BlockApps and Optimum are planning to develop such a block-type system for monitoring electricity use. This will help make electricity consumption more transparent.
