Leading Swiss insurance company started to accept Bitcoins and Ethereum

Swiss health insurance provider Atupri Health Insurance has announced that its 200,000 customers will now be able to make payments in bitcoins and Ethereum. The firm, which boasts 120 years of history, claims to be the first insurance company in Switzerland to accept cryptographic currency.

Atupri said in a statement that payments will be made through a local cryptographic company Bitcoin Suisse. The company itself will not deal with the cryptocurrency, the account will receive only converted fiat money, which will be transferred by Bitcoin Suisse.

Atupri was founded in 1910 and is one of the largest health insurance providers in Central Europe. The company's sales volume for 2019 was almost $885 million.

"As pioneers of digital technology in the healthcare sector, we anticipate social trends and offer insurance solutions with a long-term perspective. Blockchain and cryptocurrencies are becoming increasingly important," said Caroline Meli, Head of Marketing and Sales at Atupri.

Armin Schmid, head of Bitcoin Suisse crypto payments, highly appreciated the prospects of partnership with insurers:

"We are happy to partner with Atupri and guarantee safe and uncomplicated payment options with crypto payments".

Among other things, Bitcoin Suisse deals with digital asset trading for its clients. It also offers storage services for cryptocurrency.

In May, Bitcoin Suisse added gold, silver and platinum to its platform, allowing users to trade precious metals paired with Bitcoins and Ethereum and five other major fiat currencies.

Switzerland is in a progressive position with respect to crypt currencies. The country has legalized their use and developed a clear regulatory framework. The country considers virtual money and Blockchain technology as strategically important innovations in the global financial system.
